New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans based in New Orleans are an American professional basketball team. The Pelicans fight as one of the members club of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team plays its home games in the Smoothie King Center (formerly known as the New Orleans Arena) from 2014 till now. The head coach of the Pelicans is Alvin Gentry.

The Pelicans were founded as the New Orleans Hornets in the 2002-03 Season. The franchise temporarily relocated to Oklahoma City, due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where they spent two seasons formally known as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. The team came back to New Orleans full-time for the 2007-08 Season. On December 14, 2012, it was reported that the Hornets would change their nickname to the New Orleans Pelicans effective after the finale of the 2012-13 Season till now. The team name was motivated by Louisiana’s state bird, the Brown Pelican.

In 14 seasons of play the original franchise moved from North Carolina, the Louisiana franchise has attained an overall regular season record of 528–604, and has competed for the playoffs six times. Their achievements include one division title and one playoff series victory.
