Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks is the NBA professional Basketball team based in Atlanta. The Hawks fight in the NBA as a member team of the Southeast Division of the League’s Eastern Conference. The team plays its domestic games at Philips Arena.
The team was originally established as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in the year 1946 in Moline, Illinois. At that time it was a member of the National Basketball League (NBL) and possessed by Leo Ferries & Ben Kerner. In 1949, they got affiliated with NBA when the merger between Basketball Association of America (BAA) and NBL took place. In 1951, the team moved to Milwaukee and changed their name to the Milwaukee Hawks.
In 1955, the team again relocated to St. Louis and renamed as St. Louis Hawks, where they won their first NBA championship title of 1958 season and the last up till now. The team qualified to play in NBA finals in the year 1957, 1960 and 1961 also, but could not win the championship title. The Hawks played against the Boston Celtics in all four NBA Finals of their game history. The St. Louis Hawks again shifted to Atlanta in 1968 becoming the present Atlanta Hawks, where Kerner sold the franchise to Carl Sanders and Thomas Cousins. The Hawks currently own the second-longest unsuccessful streak (behind the Sacramento Kings) of not winning the Championship title at 57 seasons.
The team’s only NBA championship, as well as all four NBA Finals appearances, took place when the team was in St. Louis. Now, they went 48 years without advancing past the second round of the playoffs in any layout, until 2015 season. The franchise has four Conference titles (in 1957, 1958, 1960, and 1961) and five division titles (in 1970, 1980, 1987, 1994, and 2015. Mike Budenholzer is the present head coach.
