Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are one of the professional basketball teams of America which was based in Sacramento, California. The Kings participate in Pacific Division of the league’s Western Conference, in the National Basketball Association. They are the only team sited in Sacramento present in the major professional North American sports leagues. The team played its domestic games at the Sleep Train Arena from 1988-2016 and now starting with the 2016-17 season; they will play its domestic games at the Golden 1 Center. The team’s present head coach is Dave Joerger.
The Kings are the oldest franchise in National Basketball Association, and one of the oldest constantly operating professional basketball franchises in the nation. They originally started as the Rochester Seagrams in Rochester, New York in the year 1923. In 1945 they joined National Basketball league as the Rochesters Royals. They jumped to the Basketball Association of America (BAA), forerunner of the NBA in 1948. The Royals won NBA championship for the first time in 1951.
The team relocated to Cincinnati in 1957 in order to increase profit which was turning difficult in the small market of Rochester and became Cincinnati Royals. After then the team moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1972 and was renamed as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings because in the beginning they divided their home games between Kansas City and Omaha, Nebraska. But in 1975, the Kings stopped playing home games in Omaha and purely became the Kansas City Kings. The team again could not get much success in that market, and moved to Sacramento in 1985 and became Sacramento Kings up till now. The team got one conference title in 1951 and three division titles in the year 1979, 2002 and 2003.
