Washington Wizards
The well known Washington Wizards are an American professional basketball team formed in Washington, D.C. The Wizards participate as one of the member clubs of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division, in National Basketball Association (NBA). The Wizards use to play its home games at the Verizon Center, in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The team’s present coach is Scott Brook.
The team known as Wizards today started playing as the Chicago Packers in 1961, as the first modern expansion team in the history of NBA. The team’s original nickname i.e. Chicago Packers was a nod to Chicago’s meatpacking industry; their home ground, the International Amphitheatre, was next door to the Union Stock Yards. But, it was very unpopular. The organization changed its name to the Chicago Zephyrs after one year.
The franchise moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1963, and became the Baltimore Bullets. At that time the team played home games at the Baltimore Civic Center. During their first year in Baltimore, the Bullets came fourth in a five-team Western Division. The team won the 1978 NBA Championship. The team won four Conference titles (in 1971, 1975, 1978 and 1979) and six division titles (in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1979).
